CODE OF CONDUCT / RESIDENT CARE

1. Standards
1.1 Make prior arrangements for access with the resident by letter, telephone or by calling wherever possible.
1.2 Adhere to the access arrangements made, or re-arrange following consultation with the resident.
1.3 Wear uniform bearing the logo ‘JC Electrics’, and be neat in their appearance.
1.4 Introduce themselves to the resident and show up-to-date identification bearing the company name, operatives name and photograph.
1.5 Explain the nature and purpose of the job.
1.6 Be polite and courteous to residents, their visitors and staff.
1.7 Respond positively to residents complaints and deal with in accordance with JC Electrics complaints procedure.
1.8 Do not pass confidential information about other residents onto any persons.
1.9 Behave in a proper and professional manner at all times.
1.10 Not to smoke, work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use bad language, play radios or other music players inside or outside the property and not to use residents facilities without permission.
1.11 Take care of the residents property and possessions and protect these from dust or paint by covering them properly with dust sheets.
1.12 With the residents permission, move to a safe place any items that are likely to be damaged and which cannot be adequately protected.
1.13 Minimise disruption and mess to the residents home.
1.14 Protect adequately all floors, floor coverings, stairs, carpets etc against damage.
1.15 Keep the residents home secure at all times, when we, the contractor are key holders to the property.
1.16 Complete the works within the property, in the most practicable time possible, to ensure that the work is completed to an excellent standard.
1.17 Make safe all works, make further arrangements for access and advise the residents of the duration of the works, where those works are to take more than one day.
1.18 Carry out works in a clean and tidy manner.
1.19 Help residents, particularly those invalid, elderly etc in moving of furniture and the replacement of the same where necessary for the completion of the works.
1.20 To clean away tools and debris and to leave the site in a clean and tidy manner.
1.21 Complete the works fully in accordance with the Company’s Standard of Workmanship and Materials.
1.22 Give adequate notice when it is necessary to disconnect services and then re-connect and test these at the end of the working day.
1.23 Recompense tenants for gas and electricity used (and water if supply is metered)
1.24 Restrict any activity to normal hours 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
1.25 Wherever possible, access should only be obtained and the work carried out when the resident is present.
1.26 In the event that residents break an arrangement for access or refuse access, JC Electrics will leave a duplicated card re-cording the address, date and time. The card should invite the resident to contact them to re-arrange the appointment for the work.
1.27 Care must be exercised when work is carried out in the vicinity of small children or pets particularly with regard to sharp tools and toxic substances being kept well out of reach.
1.28 Care and consideration will be required when working in the home of elderly or disabled residents, particularly with regard to restricted movement around the house, tools and materials lying on floors and maintaining acceptable levels of warmth and comfort.
1.29 Clear up daily and remove rubbish when works are finished for the day and clean rooms required for evening use. Only if it has been agreed with the resident that a particular room is out of use would it be unnecessary to clear up that room.
1.30 Residents should be given a minimum of one weeks notice that carpets or furniture need to be removed or, if the works are an emergency or urgent, as much notice as possible. Residents should have the option of arranging removal themselves if they wish to do so. Any arrangements for removing and replacing carpets and/ or furniture should be recording in writing.
1.31 Contractors must ensure homes they are working in are left secure. Where there is scaffolding erected, all windows must be secured and all ladders removed.
1.32 Remove rubbish from the garden and areas outside the building.
1.33 Comply with Health & Safety Legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
