No, we do not advise the painting of our heaters.
What are the main benefits of purchasing a storage heater?
Storage heaters are one of the most popular forms of electric heating, and because they use low cost 'off peak' electricity running costs are low. Storage heaters are also cheap and easy to install, requiring no pipework or flues. Storage heaters have no moving parts or internal combustion, are virtually maintenance free and do not require an annual safety check.
How much will a storage heater cost to run?
This depends on the individual energy suppliers and their charges for off peak energy, however it is a more cost effective method as ‘off peak’ energy is cheaper than peak / day rate.
How and when do I charge my storage heater?
Storage heaters work by taking an energy charge during off peak energy times - (usually overnight – although some energy suppliers offer a day time boost). On all storage heaters you are able to control the input charge (the amount of heat stored) either manually by using a simple control on the top of the heater, or via an automatic input control which regulates the charge required. When your energy supplier makes the off peak energy available the storage heater will automatically start to charge, then, once it has taken either it’s full charge or the energy supplier stops the off peak energy flow, the heater will release the heat gradually throughout the day. Please consult energy suppliers in your area for details on tariffs available.
Are the Dimplex storage heaters compatible with Dimplex controls?
No – our storage heaters have their own integral controls. If you are interested in heating that uses off peak energy but is compatible with controls please refer to our DuoHeat radiator range .
Are they easy to use?
Storage heaters are very easy to use, but it is important to remember that they operate differently from conventional wet radiator systems as they heat the fabric [the walls and furniture] of the building. Because storage heaters provide continuous heat, there is no need for pre-heating.
Do they require a lot of maintenance?
The majority of storage heaters have no moving parts or internal combustion so they require very little maintenance are virtually maintenance free and do not require an annual safety check.
Can I use a storage heater in a bathroom?
Our mini storage heaters XL6 & XLS6 are ideal in size and IPX2 [drip-proof] rated making them suitable for bathroom use, although the installing electrician must ensure its position within the bathroom complies with the IEE regulations. Our range of XL/XLS are all also IPX2 rated. We do not recommend storage heaters for heavily tiled bathrooms as the tiles will prevent the walls from absorbing the storage heat.
Can I move my storage heater?
This should only be executed by a competent person or qualified electrician. For safety reasons all electrical supplies to the heater must be switched off and all bricks removed before moving the heater.
Can I dry my clothes on my storage heater?
No, you should never cover the surfaces of the heater or obstruct the air outlet grilles as this will cause temperatures of the product to rise and the safety cut-outs to operate. However a towel rail for our mini storage heater range (XL/XLS6) is available as an accessory and provides a safe method of using this particular storage heater to dry towels (part no. STR6).
Can I put shelving above my heater?
Yes, we manufacture shelves to complement our range of storage heaters (SHE6, SHE12, SHE18 and SHE24) A minimum clearance of 150mm between the heater and the shelf must be adhered to.
